Science: Changes in materials

The children in Year 5 have been looking at different reversible and irreversible changes. We’ve had an afternoon of mixing vinegar and milk to make plastic, bicarbonate of soda and vinegar to make carbon dioxide (and a bit of a mess!), yeast, sugar and water to also make carbon dioxide as well as oil and water – some of us were shocked to see this was a reversible change. We made our own cornflour slime yesterday to see how it could be both a solid and a liquid.

We also completed our work on dissolving and all investigated our own variables to see if we could speed up dissolving.
