Buzzing about bees
Today, Reverend Jamieson came into Reception to talk to us about bee-keeping to help us with our mini-beast topic. We looked at lots of different photographs of bees and the flowers they like to pollinate. We learned that in one day, a honeybee will only visit the same kind of flower, where as other bees will visit lots of different flowers in one day. We were lucky enough to have a look at some bees wax from inside the hive and also have a look at one of the frames where the bees make the honey. Reverend Jamieson taught us that bees are very gentle creatures and they won’t sting us unless they feel threatened as bees can only sting once before they die.
We got to see the special clothes that bee-keepers have to wear to keep themselves safe. We also got to taste some of the honey that Reverend Jamieson has collected.
Reception now know lots about bees and Mrs Smith was so impressed with all the children that tried some of the local honey.
A big thank you to Reverend Jamieson for taking the time to talk to us about his hobby.
